Lovely circular walk (21 km) through the many green spaces the city of Utrecht has to offer. The highlight of the route is the estate of Amelisweerd. Route by Hannah.
The route starts in Hoog Catharijne at Utrecht Central Station and follows the Singel, the canal surrounding the city, towards Park Oosterspoorbaan. This recent addition of greenery to the city, opened in July 2020, is constructed over a disused railway track. A trail along the banks of the Kromme Rijn leads you to the beautiful estates of Amelisweerd & Rhijnauwen.
In Amelisweerd there are multiple options for a break with a good cup of coffee. I suggest De Veldkeuken, a vegan friendly restaurant and bakery with all organic fresh products, including loads of delicious baked goods.
The route follows a smaller branch of the Kromme Rijn to nature reserve Bloeyendael. You will pass an artistic and futuristic architectural structure, De Apenrots, designed by Ton Alberts.
Another park, the Voorveldse Polder, takes you to the lovely neighbourhood Witte Vrouwen. The last park on the route is Griftpark, a busy but charming green space, before returning to the Singel for the last stretch of the walk towards the start point at Hoog Catharijne.
