This 16.5km hike takes you through a series of beautiful woodlands in the Chiltern Hills between Great Missenden and High Wycombe. This walk is taken (in a slightly adapted form) from Christopher Somerville’s Walks in the Country near London. The route starts at the train station in the lovely village of Great Missenden, just a 41 minute train journey from London Marylebone station. The route finishes at High Wycombe train station, less than 30 minutes from Marylebone by train. The route is not waymarked, so you need a (digital) map to find your way.
This hike crosses a series of beautiful woodlands, including Atkins Wood, Peterley Wood, Longfield Wood, Gomms Wood, and the woods around Hughenden Manor, connected by paths through farmland offering lovely views over the calm rolling hills. Between Peterley Wood and Longfield Wood here is a charming pub, The Polecat Inn, with an enormous beergarden and the stableyard at Hughenden Manor contains a small vegan-friendly café and shop.
