Get Outside

A lovely 15 km walk through southwest London countryside. This route is section 8 of the London LOOP and starts at Ewell West Station and finishes at Kingston station. This route follows the Hogsmill River, visits Ewell Court Park, and finishes at the Thames. The waymarking on this route is really good, so you could probably find your way relying on those alone. However, I carried this guidebook by Colin Saunders to find my way.

The walk starts at Ewell West Station, from where you enter Bourne Hall Park with a lovely lake and waterwheel. After crossing a road at the end of the park, you enter Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve to walk along the Hogsmill River. The official route passes by Ewell Court Park, but it is worth a short diversion to visit the Park with its lake and mansion. Once back on the main route, you continue to follow the Hogsmill River over a track through watermeadows.

Once you reach the street Riverhill there is no path that continues along the river, so you need to follow the signposts through a residential area to join the river again just beyond St John the Baptist church. The route takes you to cross the busy A3, using a subway, to enter the Hogsmill River Park Nature Reserve. Just after Barryland Station the waymarking guides you through Kingston Upon Thames to reach the lovely promenade along the Thames and Fife Road leads you to Kingston Station, where this walk finishes. Before you take the train back home make sure to explore Kingston Upon Thames and do walk over to see the marketplace.
